A simple story

I recently remembered a little story that got me thinking about everything that is happening in the world right now. It began with a small child, simple taking a sweet from a jar, knowing that he should have asked first. When his mother asked him if he had taken a sweet without asking, the child replied, "yes, I had the sweet". His mother is happy that he told the truth but enquires anyway, "why didn't you lie? Why did you tell me you took the sweet when you know you will be punished?".. The child replies, "Well there has to be one person in the world who tells the truth".

This little story (that I don't tell very well) got me thinking about all the lies in the world. I strongly feel that this little story about a child telling the truth even though in doing so would result in punishment, represents everything that is wrong with people today. Government want control, people stab each other in the back to make a small pittance and worst of all. People are not honest with others, or even themselves. I believe that we need to re-think our values and ensure that we are happy and content with ourselves, before we complain about other people. We should sort our own lives out before worrying about who is going to get voted out of the jungle.
